Reviews about G's Bakery & Cafe

G's bakery at 1714 Dauphin Street, have deleted my post from their Facebook page TWICE, and deleted my original review of the establishment from 11/18. If G's bakery cannot take criticism, perhaps they should produce a higher quality product, and strive for better customer service.

On 11/25/16, my mother was charged $24 for one croissant, two bagels, and two cinnamon Danish twists. She left a voicemail for management to call her about being over charged, and no one from G's has yet to do so.
Also, she was asked to pay for her lunch meal separately from her baked goods, which she did; she paid $16.50, for a tea with no refill, and ordered French onion soup, and a pastrami sandwich. Her meal came out after others that had ordered after her, and her meal was completely wrong. The French onion soup was not hot, and the cheese was barely melted and cooling/hardening quickly due to the low temp of the soup. The soup also had BURNT RYE bread in it, which gave it a terrible flavor. Her pastrami sandwich wasn't pastrami at all; it was roast beef or some sort of brown pork. When my mother inquired about the sandwich being incorrect, she was told, "we have one person that makes sandwiches, and he needed a day off, so the pastry chef has been making them today." Rachel asked if she could remake the sandwich, but mother told her no, because she was not interested in a remade sandwich, she really just wanted to let G's know of the issues that she was having. Additionally, the sandwich mother had was not edible; she only ended up eating the little bit of meat that was on the sandwich. Overall, a very bad, and costly, experience at G's bakery today.

And since G's deleted my original review of their business from my 11/18/16 visit, I'll tell you about that again. The croissants, monkey bread, and bread loaves were BURNT. So burnt, that we actually asked if they always sell these items that are so over cooked, and we were told, "yes. That's the way HE cooks them." Well, if HE wants to sell these items, perhaps HE should consider the fact that most people prefer their bread to not be burnt, and maybe turn his oven down a bit. Perhaps even get an internal thermometer for the ovens as well.

Additionally, I must call into question the storage and display methods of the baked products. The loaves of bread were stacked up against, and touching, the painted bare walls; not in bins or baskets as they should be. The other loaves and goods were placed directly on those dirty black bakers racks; not on clean towels or parchment, just directly on the dirty racks. There were also flies buzzing about, and landing on all the exposed bread products. And we all know that flies contaminate food with their filth, and can contribute to the spread of disease.

11/25 was my mothers third visit to G's, and she's spent $100, or more. The baked goods are over cooked and burnt, the meals being served come out wrong, and the staff has very little knowledge of the products, and zero knowledge concerning how to address complaints and/or to fix an issue that is clearly G's fault. The idea behind this business is fantastic; but the execution is subpar, at best. Which is unfortunate, because my family strives to support local businesses whenever possible, even if they're not always as great as the corporate competition. Personally, on 11/18 I decided to not visit G's bakery again, due to the poor quality of products, over baking, and my concerns over the sanitation and safety with the display and storage of their baked goods. But frankly, I'm not sure why my mother continues to waste her money in G's bakery; as each visit proves more disappointing than the previous. Though today may have pushed even her patience and forgiveness of blatant incompetence over the edge.
